Fuel Systems Textron needed an actual exploded photograph of the components that comprise a fuel nozzle. This type of nozzle is used to inject fuel into the combustion chamber of fighter jet engines. Previous attempts at creating this photograph were unsuccessful because the parts were unstable, i.e., their shape prevented them from remaining in a position that was suitable for exploded photography. The Technical Writing and Engineering Company was called upon to solve this problem. We quickly developed a calibrated backdrop and employed a variety of geometric means (familiar to us from PhotoDrafting™) to ensure that all images were taken from the proper angles. Parts were precisely positioned by using special adhesives and miniature fixtures. The entire on-location setup process and photography, took less than two hours! Component images were then assembled, a color background was added, and text was overlaid, creating the finished image. |
